Solaris Motorsport has announced its GT Open full-season campaign for 2017. The Italian squad based in Pescara and led by the Sini family will defend the colours of Aston Martin, entering its Vantage GT3 for Francesco Sini and the team’s new recruit, Mauro Calamia from Switzerland.
The Italian outfit will benefit from the support of Aston Martin Racing and start testing next week in Vallelunga. The squad took part with its Vantage to the GT Open final round in Barcelona, conquering a podium finish in Race 2. Previously, they had been occasional contenders in the series in 2015 with a Corvette.
Experienced GT and sportscar driver Francesco Sini (36), a former Euro V6 Series (20154) and Radical Masters Series (2008) champion, commented: “I was anxious to go back to the European scene and our outing at Barcelona last year was so pleasant and positive that we started working immediately to be in the GT Open for the entire season. We welcome Mauro to our team; he is young and fast and has already a very good experience on European tracks.”
Zurich-born Mauro Calamia (26), who won the Maserati World Trofeo in 2014, stated: “I am very excited and proud to start this new project and ready to start familiarizing myself with the Aston Martin. Solaris Motorsport is like a family and I am sure I am in the right team and together with the right team mate to go for good results.”
