VSR joins the GT Open grid

02.02.2018

One of top new entries in the 2018 International GT Open will be Vincenzo Sospiri Racing (VSR). The Italian team will have its first taste of the series with its Lamborghini Huracán at the forthcoming tests in Barcelona (16-17 February) and will announce their driver line-ups shortly.

After over a decade of success in single-seater Championships, the team of Sospiri, a former F.1 and Indycar driver, switched to running GT cars in 2015. The team, based in Forlì near Imola, enjoyed success right from the start, claiming the Super GT title in the Italian GT Championship in 2016 and 2017, and winning the Pro-Am and Am classes in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship last season.

Vincenzo Sospiri declared: “I’m very happy to be joining the GT Open this season. The Championship is very competitive and very well organised and is also the perfect format to develop the GT drivers of the future. I’m very much looking forward to working with Jesús and his team and would like to thank them for their warm welcome.”

Jesús Pareja, CEO of GT Sport, commented: “We welcome VSR to the GT Open and I have no doubt they will be a great addition to the series. Vincenzo knows motorsports inside-out and has built a very strong reputation for himself and his team. I am convinced they will be very competitive”.
