Mercedes AMG took the opportunity of the Nürburgring 24 Hours to present the new version of its AMG GT3 racer, which will be available to customers for the 2020 racing season and will mark the tenth year of presence of Mercedes AMG in GT3.
The new car is an evolution of the current one, which has been a huge success (130 units sold) and has been praised by teams and drivers because of his “user-friendly” characteristics.
The new version aims at further stressing those characteristics and reducing running costs: the V8 6.3 engine will allow for longer maintenance deadlines and a number of parts (including body parts) have been redesigned to better protect vital organs and be easier to maintain or repair. Drop start will be a standard feature and aerodynamics, ABS and traction control have been revisited.
The new car will now undergo an intensive testing programme, which will include real racing, before its commercial launch, foreseen end of 2019. A kit to retrofit cars sold after July 2018 will also be proposed.
