GT Sport today announced that the 2021 season-opening round of the International GT Open, scheduled at the Autódromo do Algarve on 23-25 April, has been cancelled and will be replaced by a round at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari at Imola on 23-25 July.
This calendar change was made necessary after the recent confirmation that the Portuguese F.1 Grand Prix will take place at the Algarve on the weekend of 1st-2nd May. As it is known, the usual logistical planning of a Gran Prix implies that no event can take place on the same track in the weekend before.
The event at Imola, shared with ACI Sport, will be the fourth in the 2021 season, which will now kick-off at Circuit Paul Ricard on 14-16 May.
Jesús Pareja, CEO of GT Sport: “We are sure that everybody understands the reasons that led to this calendar change as we do. We congratulate the Autódromo do Algarve for securing this year too that Formula 1 visits Portugal and thank ACI Sport for welcoming us at Imola, another iconic F.1 track that we will be happy to go back to, ten years after our last visit.”
