The Aust Motorsport Audi fastest in hot free practice

It was a sunny but hot day of free practice at Spa-Francorchamps, with temperatures reaching 30 degrees in the afternoon, making difficult the work of cars and drivers taking the track.

At the end of the day, it was the Aust Motorsport Audi of Dino Steiner and Max Hofer posting the best lap time, 2.18.057, in FP2. The day hadn’t started well for the German-Austrian duo, whose first session was cut short by a steering problem, but in the afternoon everything ran perfectly. They beat the Team Gt Mercedes of Florian Scholze-Alain Valente by 0s514.

Third-fastest, in their debut in the series, was the HRT Mercedes of Frank Bird-Jordan Love (-0s740), followed by the Olimp Racing Audi of Marcin Jedlinski-Karol Basz (-0s992). All these cars posted their time in the afternoon session.

Fastest in the morning (and fifth of the day) was the Kessel Racing Ferrari of Murat Cuhadaroglu-David Fumanelli ahead of the other debuting car of Singha Racing Team TP12, the Porsche 911R of Piti Bhirombhkadi, paired last-minute with team principal Earl Bamber. The outfit performed well despite remaining stuck on the gravel in FP1.

The new gravel traps were certainly a feature that drivers discovered with interest and often at their expenses. The only car hitting the barriers was the SPS Mercedes, when Dexter Müller lost it at Blanchimont in FP1 but damages were going to be repaired.
