Optimum Motorsport today announced that it will enter full-season a McLaren 720S in the 2023 International GT Open for the British pair composed of Sam De Haan and Charlie Fagg.
Both drivers are new to the Wakefield-based team, which has a long record of successes in the series (including a Pro-Am title in 2021 and overall runner-up honours in 2022), but have raced together in recent years in Asian and European LMS.
De Haan, 27 and a double British GT vice champion, has a couple of GT Open outings to his credit, including a race win at the Red Bull Ring in 2021. Fagg (23) is a McLaren development driver and won the Silver Cup in the European GT4 in 2021. Both have solid credentials in the GT international racing scene.
Previewing the new season, Sam De Haan explained: “I am really excited to confirm the first plans for the new 2023 season, and to be joining Optimum Motorsport. It will be great to push myself with a new challenge in a full season of International GT Open, and I am really looking forward to driving the 720S GT3. Optimum have proven they know what it takes to win races and championships with the McLaren, and it is great to be partnering with Charlie who has really helped me get to grips with the car already. The calendar visits some of the best circuits, and we will be pushing for strong results straight out of the box, so let’s see what we can do!”
